Frequently Asked Questions

API SP rated engine oil is required for BS6 petrol cars. Most modern turbocharged petrol engines (Maruti BoosterJet, Hyundai Kappa, Tata Revotron) specify 5W-30 or 5W-40 fully synthetic API SP. Always check your owner's manual for the exact grade.
API SP (2020) adds LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition) protection for direct-injection turbocharged engines. If your car is a 2019 or newer BS6 model with a turbo engine, use API SP — it is fully backward-compatible with API SN engines.
Every 5,000–7,500 km for mineral, 7,500–10,000 km for semi-synthetic, and up to 10,000–15,000 km for fully synthetic. In Indian city traffic with frequent idling and heat, use the shorter interval.
Mixing grades is not recommended — it dilutes the additive package and changes the viscosity profile. In an emergency, topping up with a compatible grade is acceptable, but drain and refill with fresh oil at the next service interval.
